In order for an advertiser to create a successful advert, they need to gather the correct information to base their advert around and make it more appealing to the audience or to even found out what type of audience the advert should be intended for.
You can find television ratings from the BARB (Broadcasters Audience Research Board). This information is useful as you can find out what an audience may like or dislike about particular adverts and apple that to your advert to make it more appealing. BARB was set up in 1981 to provide the industry standard television audience measurement service for broadcasters and the advertising industry. BARB is owned by BBS, ITV, Cannel 4, Channel 5, BskyB and the IPA (institute Of Practioners in Advertising) and is not for profit company limited by guarantee. You can also gather information from a rate card which is a document that is provided from another media source featuring the organisations rate for advertising.
A programme profile may be useful for an advertiser because it may help them create an advert better and more appealing to audiences. This may get a better reception from the audience and get the product sold.
A rate card may be useful for an advertising company because other companies will know that if they want to advertise their product, looking at their rate card as as advertising company will help decide if they are a good advertising company or not.
